Just heard on the radio that catspause.com is reporting that Billy D will sign a 7 year 3.5 million per year contract with UK when fla season is over. He also gets a 3.5 million loyalty bonus if he stays for the length of the contract.

I hope that's spot on, but I'll be convinced when Mitch and the University make the official announcement.

Thats whats going around here too in Fl, I wish it wouldn't have come out, would we as UK fans want a coach with two National Championships for more leverage power of one who has one? This will be a big distraction for the Gators but I don't think they will give into it, they want to win for themseleves as much as they do their coach IMO! So with the bonus its actually 4million a year as long as he stays, and probably same as Tubby's there was the final four clause! Saban was rumored and he did it, etc., usually the leaks turn out to be true, I think Donovan is coming to UK and I am as excited as can be about it!

The story as far as I know is true its been offered that doesn't mean he is going to sign, but listening to him talk, watching his mannerisms, IMO he is gone, He is our coach, honestly I am pleseantly suprised, I didn't think he would leave Florida but it appears he will! I think he has so many thing he can get at UK that he will never get as a Gator, most of all he is the Top Dog, probably will be on top of the college basketball world, which he is now but the state doesn't care! You wouldn't believe how apathetic and unexcited this state is about basketball and being in the final four is less important to them then the spring football game! Donovan had one no SEC sale out Ohio St., his stadium about 12 thousand fans half of UK's, 65,000 fans at a Spring Football Practice, IMO he wants the UK tradition, Alliance, Fans, Prestige, I first heard all of this and thought no way he leaves, now I think no way he is not a CAT!

Easy TampaKat. I too want to get excited, but I am holding off so I am not severely disappointed if this deal does not go through.

This story being leaked could be terrible for UK and Donavan if it is true. UK will be viewed as dirty for not waiting until the tournament is over and Donavan will be considered a snake as well.
Consider if he wins the championship again. All of the celebrations, white house visits and stories will be tainted with this. If they don't win UK and he will be blamed for the distraction.
This could turn into one big mess causing BD to just say forget it.

Ford with macey as head asst and walker as chief recruiter
wouldn't that be nice!
I know I am dreaming
Billy is first but what a backup plan!! IMO ![[Big Grin]](biggrin.gif)

Tampa, I think the most TELLING statement in your entire post was: "The state of Florida is MORE caught up with spring football then the school making the final four and going for back-to-back champioships!" WOW that says a mouthfull!!!
"Coach Donavan, WELCOME BACK HOME to Lexington!"
GO BIG BLUE ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! !

FWIW, there is nothing that UK can offer that UF cannot match. The only reason for leaving the Gators would be his desire to be somewhere else. I don't believe that to be true however.

Unless he wants to be somewhere where he will always be the top dog, rather than second string to Spring Football.

what sucks about the rumor is that we won't know for another week whether it has "legs" or not. Until the final four is over, it will remain speculation.

Jaws, You would have to have been born in Kentucky to understand it. Coach Donnavan UNDERSTANDS it, he lived here as an itegral part of the program for five years. No one DREAMED Pitino would ever leave Camelot for Boston but did, now forever regrets his decision to do so. Billy has heard all the reports that he is the #1 candidate for what is generally described as the BEST JOB in xollege basketball.
If you lose him at Florida, please don't blame us, blame Tubby!, he is the SOLE reason we now have a vacancy.
And please don't ever underestimate Kentucky's POWER to atrack a coach. It has to be the right person with the right personality. Many other factors are included and all of Kentucky's resources indicate that Billy isn't lacking in any of them.
A few seasons back we were locked in a recruiting battle with UL for Rex Chapman, in the end he chose UK, the reason he gave when he signed was: "When I considered both schools, it was Kentucky which had EVERYTHING that I wanted".

If this is true, and I certainly hope it is, then it does make Mitch Barnhart and UK look rather badly with Florida still alive and playing for a National Championship. If Florida do not repeat now, it will be stated that Donovan was distracted with the UK people etc. Wish this news was not coming out right now, think it would have been better for all if it waited until after the NCAA tournament is over.

Donovan could very well leave UF, although I don't believe he will, however, there are strong rumors that if he did indeed leave, it would be for the Miami Heat and not UK. He has a strong connection with Pat Riley. That being said, I still think he stays put.

I've got a question regarding Billy D. Is it true that his wife is originally form here in Lexington? Did he meet her while an assistant to Ricky P?
I heard this one today and was just curious about it. I also heard this morn that his daughter was really into the equine. If both of these are true then there are several reasons for him to come back to Lexington besides "just" coaching the CATS!!
