I know, the vogue coping mechanism among fans is to blame the coach, but I do not see this as a coaching issue. This team's mistakes are of the mental variety -- not talent deficiency, not game-plan shortcomings, not physical inabilities.

Lack of mental concentration and incompetent decision-making are the culprits of doom for this squad. It does not take Henry Iba to see this.

"Lack of mental concentration and incompetent decision-making are the culprits of doom for this squad."

The same can be said about the coach. And don't forget he was the one who evaluated these players and recruited them.

Yes, Coach Smith evaluated and recruited the players representing the University of Kentucky and he missed on the Junior and Senior classes. He is still a very good coach and is having to play out the hand he dealt himself.

Being a good coach is only 1 part of the recipe for being a successful program.

If I were going to metaphor the UK program I would say that the program is a high performance engine that is being fueled by low grade gasoline. The program simply isn't getting the maximum performance that it should be getting. However, if the fuel were upgraded to the hi-test grade, the engine would produce exceptional performance.

It's true that Tubby has to play the cards he has dealt to himself. I just think we need to realize that indeed Tubby did deal the cards.

I think the freshman class actually has pretty good basketball IQ. They have shown some good awareness and ability to share the ball, play in defined roles, etc. It is the so-sr's that have a real issue in this department, IMO.

I don't consider myself a poster. I consider myself a leader who happens to post on The Cat's Domain. I don't want my fellow posters to be just better readers or better writers but better human beings. And when they leave here, not just knowing about dribbles and jump shots but equipped for life.
