As Tennessee Coach Bruce Pearl entered the Mason County Fieldhouse last night, the high school pep band began playing Rocky Top. More than 1,000 Kentuckians, many wearing orange T-shirts, stood and shook orange-and-white pompoms in rhythm with the music.
As Flo Allen, a retiree in this Ohio River town, shook her pompoms, she said, "I can't believe I'm doing this."
Disbelief seemed appropriate with Pearl, who directs the program once led by arch-Kentucky villain Ray Mears, being treated as visiting royalty. Appearances at the Maysville Rotary Club and a later public talk in the Fieldhouse sparked five standing ovations.

This is truly a damn shame. I will cast no blame for this debacle, but something stinks when a longtime hotbed of UK basketball now has thousands of its citizens parading around in puke orange.
Has Tubby Smith been honored with Kentucky colonel status?

Kentucky Colonel Status means practically nothing these days. I have one and I have not lived in Kentucky since I was an 22 year old kid. My brother got it and presented it to me. It should cause concern around Lexington and Louisville that someone from Tennessee is getting such high praise from their fan base, something just is not right in the state of Kentucky anymore. I normally don't even tell or show my Ky Colonel certificate, has no significance since they hand them out like confetti at parades anymore.

It doesn't really mean all that much as has been stated. But we all know why he was accepted so well in Maysville. UK got themselves into a recruiting problem and had no room for Lofton. Now we're trying to get another outstanding athlete from Maysville but here comes Pearl, just trying to honor Lofton by coming to hie home town. This has been done by UK coaches as well as other coaches. You hope to play a game in a players home so he can be seen before the home crowd who knew him growing up. I think it is all fair but it sure doesn't help UKs recruiting chances up there.

The one thing the fans of Maysville seem to overlook is the fact that it was not Pearl who recruited Lofton to play at UT, that was Buzz Peterson. Lofton was a UT star when Pearl arrived on the scene.

I became a Kentucky Colonel 30 years ago, and even though it really means nothing, I admit I'm kinda proud of it. Anyway, I just looked at my certificate hanging on the wall and noticed that it begins with "Commonwealth of Kentucky", then comes the State Seal, and then the name of the governor in large lettering. Also, the signature line at the bottom states "By the Governor" and requires the Gov's signature.
If this is still the case, does that mean that Fletcher had to be the one that conferred this to Pearl, or did someone like Pence if the Gov was out of state?

A real damn shame. This makes me sick to think that the dreaded URNGE has invaded a part of our Bluegrass. Run his @$$ back down South.
