New year, new me, right? That’s the exact approach this Kentucky Basketball team is taking heading into SEC play. Today, Isaiah Jackson told reporters he never would have believed Kentucky would start the season 1-6, but the team is treating Saturday’s conference opener vs. Mississippi State as a fresh start.
“I would have told them they were lying, but this is where we are as a team. League [play] starts Saturday so I feel like that’s a fresh start for us. These are the games that truly honestly count, in my opinion, to build on to go right up to the beginning of March Madness, win the league and things like that. We had a good week of practice. This whole week, we’ve been practicing real hard. I feel like we’re ready.”
Assistant coach Joel Justus told reporters that the spirit in practice this week has been “tremendous” as the team focuses on cleaning up mistakes while keeping energy and effort high.
“I think for us and for [Calipari], what he’s just trying to do is to clear things up, talk about execution and once again, continue to add a little bit more to what we’re trying to do but also sharpen how we do it. That’s the big thing for us because we are close, as we’ve seen in certain games, and I think our guys and their spirit in practice this week has been tremendous.”

Sorry, Mr. Jackson, but the games that "Truly, really count" as far as getting into the NCAA tournament were the ones you lost already. Maybe the Texas game, and a couple of SEC contests will matter, but your post-season fate has been sealed by your terrible, terrible, TERRIBLE start.

When you finish the non conference schedule ranked down around 300 the only way is UP! When you recruit the very best your results should be the very best. So run the table on the remaining 19 games and we'll believe you.
