The bottom line is that this year's team was not a "Cal" team. These were not the pieces he prefers to play with:
1-Cal does not like a jump shooting team
2-Cal prefers a strong post player
3-Cal prefers a 6'5" point guard who can run the dribble drive

So, for many reasons such as recruits going elsewhere and players not panning out (Skal), Cal was left with a team of pieces in which he did a masterful job putting together a run.
This team played great defense at times but lived and died by the outside shot. And let's face it, our front court players (Lee, Willis & Skal) are really backups. Poythress showed flashes of greatness but his entire career at UK was about inconsistency and injuries.

Most of the time Cal's recruiting is spot on but Skal was a bust and Cal had to totally change his offensive plan. He though he was getting a Nerlens Noel with a supreme offensive game.

With different seeding we could have easily made the Sweet 16 or even the Great 8. But it is what it is and I think we were lucky to have not have lost by more to Indiana.

Hopefully we have Lee, Wilis, Briscoe & Hawkins back as our core group although I do see one of them transferring to make room for Bolden.

I hope Briscoe stays and Lee transfers. Marcus is a great person and does a lot in the community but the only thing he does on the court are alley-oop dunks. If we are going to contend for national titles every year, we need great players. Too much talent out there anymore. We could only win one game in this years tourney...not good enough.

Good summary of the situation. I will say that I think Humphies has the potential to be a legitimate post presence. I think he improved a lot during the season. Give him a full summer and he will improve even more.

Wife's Mad. Told me we never talk anymore. And just last nite while watching super bowl told her 2 or 3 times to get me a coke and popcorn. Also told her not to forget to take out trash in the morning. Ain't that something. Also told me I was too indecisive. Can't figure out what to do about that. One nice thing I guess. She called me a pro crastinator. Don't know what a crastinator is but I guess I'm a good one for her to call me a pro. Gonna wait til tomorrow to look that up though. I love her but somrtimes can't help but thinking I should have told uncle Junior to keep his coon hound pup and stevens double barrel and also his youngest daughter.

Absolutely, I see a huge upside in Humphries, he will be the next Josh Harrellson or maybe even better.

Here is a mix tape of Bolden where he is playing against far less talent than what he would see at Kentucky but it's obvious he is a special player.

There is no way Lee would transfer as a senior. He probably realizes he may not be good enough to get drafted. He is a volley ball player and we all know where they play volley ball. In the olympics.

Hawkins and Willis are KY kids and won't be going anywhere in their senior year either.

Briscoe is the only one who is in doubt. He could stay for another year or he could go pro and maybe get his name called before the end of the second round.

Mulder will also be a senior and he transferred once so I don't believe he will be leaving.

Matthews should be back also because he was starting to see the floor some and could develop more in his second year.

I just don't see any transfers coming up. Floreal will go off scholarship if need be to make room for Bolden.

Bama, Lee will graduate and could go somewhere for his 5th year graduate year. But like you I think he stays here and plays more like last year--off the bench energy player.

Right. He is going to be a senior. Who knows, he may find a partner and start playing 2 man, sand volley ball. [Big Grin]

Blue mentioned Josh Harrellson, and the most amazing stat he had as a Cat was his total rebounds and points were exactly the same. Josh scored 440 points and had 440 rebounds for a average of 4.6 points and boards. Those aren't great stats but he managed to turn them into a NBA career where he played for 3 years and made over 1,700,000 dollars. In the NBA in limited minutes averaged 3 points and 3 rebounds a game.
