As the start of the 2020-21 college basketball season continues to get closer and closer, one major question heading into the season still remains unanswered.
Will Olivier Sarr get an immediate eligibility waiver from the NCAA to play for the Kentucky Wildcats this season?
Sarr decided that he would be transferring to Kentucky back in early May and it was officially confirmed in early June that UK had submitted the paperwork for immediate eligibility.
Since then, we have seen the NCAA grant several other transfer players waivers including former Cat Johnny Juzang (UCLA) as well as several transfers who transferred and submitted paperwork long after Sarr did.
A lot of the BBN has been frustrated with the long wait to hear from the NCAA and rightfully so, However, Coach Cal seems to be confident in the situation.
In a media conference Wednesday, coach Cal was asked about Sarr’s situation saying, “I feel good about Olivier’s situation, it’s just going through channels. We’ll hear when we hear, but I feel comfortable with it.”
So far, the preseason rankings have had Kentucky trending in the 11-15 range, though some had the Cats even lower (it was Jeff Goodman so...). But that was with Sarr not projected to play. If Sarr is ruled eligible, Kentucky could be looking at another preseason top-five ranking.
