In 1976, Combs made coverage of Kentucky football and men’s hoops his full-time gig by founding the UK sports publication The Cats’ Pause. Even after Combs sold TCP in 1996, he continued as a presence in Kentucky sports media by appearing on pregame shows for the UK radio network.
On Thursday, via his Twitter account, Combs, 72, announced he would not be returning to the Wildcats radio network in 2016-17.

I agree Bruce. I first met Oscar in March 1977 at Cole Field House, University of Maryland when Kentucky lost to UNC and Phil Ford playing the 4 corners offense. He gave me my first copy of the Cats Pause and I immediately subscribed to it and remained a loyal reader until he sold it years ago. Unfortunately the UK network has become far too much Matt Jones and I find myself listening to it less and less. I listen to the games with Mike Pratt and Tom Leach but now that Oscar is gone, will probably not be following the pre game show like I have faithfully for so many years. Oscar had the inside track on UK basketball when Joe B Hall was coach and if he put it in the Cats Pause magazine, you knew it was inside information. I know I for one will Miss Oscar on the pre game basketball shows. He is a walking history book on UK sports.
Oscar now lives in Florida and I am assuming that is the reason he does not want to fly back to Lexington weekly for the shows. [ 07-31-2016, 07:45 AM: Message edited by: SCWC ]

Your right Ray he was a "huge" part of Kentucky sports and it's going to take a long time to get used to him not being s big part of both UK football and basketball, a special Cat for sure.
