Newman will join the Kansas Jayhawks, according to ESPN's Jeff Goodman. Newman picked KU over Western Kentucky in addition to several other schools who were after him. He'll now have to sit out the 2016-17 college hoops season before being eligible in 2017-18.
That's big news for Kentucky, as the Wildcats and Jayhawks are battling for maybe the best point guard 2017 has to offer in Trae Young. The belief has been for awhile now that his recruitment would come down to UK and KU, but Newman being in the Jayhawks backcourt makes the Wildcats look like a far better option for Young, whether he's the full-time point guard or even just a second point that's more a scorer, a la Eric Bledsoe.
