Would you two men give us an update on your wives?

My wife is doing really well. She had a rough weekend but the last few days are pretty good. She actually wore her wig for the first time today when she went and eat lunch with her mom. Thank you for asking, and I'm asking for continued prayers.

Is she still receiving chemo?
I will be very happy to pray for both of you.

Millie is still in occupational, physical and speech therapy. She sees each of them 3 hours a week. They want me to come with her tomorrow for some training of my own about transport. She can now lift her left leg about a foot, but not much progress on the left arm. She can't move anything on it from the elbow to her fingertips. We are still living with the oldest daughter in Bowling Green and doing the therapy at SKY (Southern KY) Rehab Hospital. Daughter has to go back to work in early August. That's when I'll find out for sure if I can take care of her on my own. If you wonder why I question my own ability to do so, it's because am 86+ years old!

Norm, thanks for the news. I'm glad that she is making some progress. Please be careful about overdoing yourself in providing her care.

I continue to hope and pray for you all. I just got back from our Wednesday Bible study and we have some members who also need my prayers.

My wife had her 3rd chemo treatment today. She's feeling very good right now. It's usually the 2nd and 3rd day where she feels really bad. Her spirit is great She's laughing and acting like her old self. I hope it's not the calm before the storm.

rlt4uk,
I'm happy that her mood is good. I know that this is a difficult time for both of you, so her happy mood will be great for you.

A setback:
Millie now has a UTI. It not only weakens her, but leaves her confused. This too shall pass. (I hope) Not sure antibiotic is working.

I am sorry to hear that, Norm. That problem usually responds to treatment soon. She is so fortunate that she has you to help and support her. I will certainly pray for her recovery and for your emotional comfort in this time of distress.

I cannot take NEAR all of the credit. She is luckier still to have our oldest (62) daughter. She does more than me, including sleeping in the room with Mama, and taking care of her needs while I am sleeping. Lots and lots of using the bedside potty chair, all the cooking, most of the laundry, and the list goes on. She went back to work at WKU last week.

It is so nice to have help at home with people who have medical problems.

Actually, we are at HER home in Bowling Green. We will ne going back to our home when therapy is done, or when Medicare authorization runs out at the end of October.

Praying for you Norm. My wife is having another chemo treatment this Thursday and the Doctor said it will be the toughest one yet. Thank God that her sister from Tennessee is coming to help me next week.

Still praying for the ladies!

rlt4uk,
I hope and pray that the sister from Tennessee will be able to stay and help several days. I also pray that your wife will not suffer during these difficult times.

Millie's left leg and arm are still pretty much paralyzed, but she can lock the knee and stand on the leg. She can also walk (sorta) a couple of steps on it by taking a step with the right leg, then dragging the left. She actually moved from the wheelchair into the the big arm chair in my daughter's living room today. When she takes these steps, we more or less hover over her in case she falls. She did start to fall today, but I pushed her into the chair. She practically lives in that chair. There is progress, so I'm not complaining.

Norm,
Do you have a four legged walker that she can use?
That might make it safer and help prevent a fall.

I don't think she can use it with one hand and arm. And yes, we do have one that my brother gave us after he lost his wife. H also gave us an extra wheelchair, a toiler riser, and several other items. We had or have a rollator, a wide base walking cane, leg brace, potty chair, and some other things.

I hadn't thought of that problem. One of the reasons that I am no longer doing my medical practice is that I have dementia and my thinking is limited.
Do you plan on having a wheelchair for her?

Posted by clydeh (Member # 7) on 08-20-2021, 01:03 PM:

Norm, I just read some of your notes and see that you already have a wheelchair for her. My advice is somewhat behind schedule!

It may be behind schedule, nut Millie and I appreciate your advice and your caring. You are a good man.

Norm, thank you and Millie for those kind thoughts.

Norm, I was reading your last note, and I think maybe your hidden thought about me showed up in your note because you spelled "nut" rather than "but"

Well, at least it wasn't "Butt"!
