The Kentucky Wildcats are a finalist for one of the top defenders in the country, as Mark Stoops is doing all he can to land an elite recruit in the 2022 class.

Mykel Williams ranks among the top players in the country, as he currently checks in as the 21st-overall player in the 2022 class and the No. 1 overall strongside defensive end via Rivals.

Williams has cut his list of schools to five, and the Wildcats made the cut with the USC Trojans, Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, Georgia Bulldogs and LSU Tigers.

It appeared that Georgia was going to land Williams back in March, but he decided to delay his commitment when it started to look like players could take visits over the summer.

Williams will now make his decision in late June and has already scheduled official visits to Georgia Tech and USC. Extending his recruitment is giving Stoops and his staff more time to try and get Williams to Lexington.

In an interview with Rival’s Sam Spiegelman, Williams talked about how hard Kentucky is recruiting him.

“Coach Stoops has been recruiting the heck out of me,” Williams said. “When I come to Kentucky, he says he wants to better me and make sure I’m good.”

I would say that Georgia is still the favorite to land Williams, but Stoops is doing everything he can to try and land one the nation’s top players. If Williams picks Kentucky, it would be a massive get for the Kentucky defense.
