I tried to go to KSR on both my phone and on the laptop. In both places, I get a "403 Forbidden" message. Is this just me, or is it happening to you guys too?

They were hacked by someone in France, I heard Matt talking about it today on the radio. It's back up now.

I've been getting a "Gateway time out" this afternoon. Just tried again and am getting the same thing.

According to their radio show yesterday, the hack involved their site getting more hits per minute than the site was designed to receive.

Their site will accept roughly 1,000 hits per minute and they were receiving 10's of thousands per minute.

That is called a "denial of service attack". Somebody enlists (involuntarily) the service of dozens, if not hundreds of computers and directs them all to try to access the page repeatedly. It floods the server's maximum number of connections and nobody else can get into the site for as long as they keep it up.

VERY annoying, but surprisingly easy to do.
