Diagnosed with dementia. One of my close friends has been diagnosed as well. The saddest part is, he knows, and it is devastating to him. Cries a lot and I don't blame him.

It is a terrifying way to go. Both of my parents died of dementia, as did my mom's mom. My sister, who just turned 70, was given a diagnosis of dementia, but that has since been questioned. Nonetheless, it is almost certainly in my future, should I survive long enough.

Not sure there that there is a "good" way to exit this earth, but I certainly would prefer it be sudden rather than staring down death over time as you mind gradually goes dark.

My friend is a retired Army full bird Colonel. He served in Vietnam and was shot down in a helicopter by small arms fire. His Sargent Major was in the seat next to him, and one of the bullets blew the Sargent's brains out and all over the Colonel. He has a really bad case of PTSD that requires an emotional support dog. Other than that, a really dynamic, take charge type person. I love him like a brother.

My aunt and uncle both died with alzheimers, I would not wish that on anyone. Sorry to hear about your friend Norm.
