Could John Calipari be lining up a superstar backcourt in his 2022 recruiting class? He already has a commitment from Skyy Clark and another five-star guard, Shaedon Sharpe, certainly looks like a heavy Kentucky lean to me. Now Calipari has extended a scholarship to 6-4 guard Cason Wallace of Texas, another five-star prospect and Top 20 player nationally.

Kentucky assistant coach Jai Lucas has history with Wallace from his time on the coaching staff at Texas before he came to UK last year and Wallace exploded in the Nike EYBL play the last two weeks, including games that Calipari watched.

Wallace averaged 14.9 points, 6.7 rebounds, and 4.9 assists per game on the Nike circuit to make some believe he is the top point guard in the 2022 class. He made 18 of 45 3’s (40 percent) and shot 82.6 percent on free throws. Some recruiting analysts also rank him as one of the best perimeter defenders in the 2022 class.

His team also beat a team that featured big-time UK targets Jalen Duren and Dereck Lively — who many think is also a UK lean — before losing the rematch to the same team at Peach Jam.

Calipari made the scholarship offer Saturday. Wallace now has about 20 offers, including ones from Baylor, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, and Arkansas. However, he has been projected as a Tennessee lean by some analysts. He has made an official visit to Tennessee.
