Just found this in my email. These were voted the top UK players to play in the NBA, not top UK players in college. The top two had long careers in the NBA and were great for their time period.

15. Pat Patterson
14. Nazr Mohammed
13. Derek Anderson
12. Sam Bowie
11. Frank Ramsey
10. Rex Chapman
9. Tayshaun Prince
8. Anthony Davis
7. John Wall
6. Demarcus Cousins
5. Jamal Mashburn
4. Antoine Walker
3. Rajon Rondo
2. Cliff Hagan
1. Dan Issel

I would definitely put Big Dan Issel on top, and I have no real problem with Cliff Hagan being number two. They had long and stellar NBA careers.

But the rest I would order like this:

1. Anthony Davis
2. Rajon Rondo
3. Frank Ramsey
4. John Wall
5. Demarcus Cousins
6. Tayshaun Prince
7. Chuck Hayes
8. Louie Dampier
9. Karl Anthony Towns
10. Antoine Walker
11. Jamaal Mashburn
12. Rex Chapman
13. Devon Booker
14. Nazr Mohammed
15. Rick Robey
16. Willy Cauley-Stein
17. Michael Kidd-Douglas
18. Jamaal Magloire
19. Patrick Patterson
20. Melvin Turpin
21. Derrick Anderson
22. Walter McCarty
23. Ron Mercer
24. Mark Pope
25. Kyle Macy

Rondo has sure climbed the ladder of success and will go down as not only one of our best point guards but one our best players of all-time.

Sure glad the dirty birds didn't get him.

I don't see Kevin Grevey listed any where on either of those list.

Tip,

Who is Micheal Kidd-Douglass? LOL.

I think you are combining the Chris Douglass Roberts (Cal's Memphis 3 named player) with Michael Kidd-Gilchrist.
[Big Grin] [Big Grin] [Razz] That would be one heck of a player though and deserving of being higher on the list.

Heh. My bad, Trey. You are right, that would be a monster player, in both senses of the word. [Smile]

Grevey averaged 11 points a game, 2.4 rebounds and averaged 43.7% from the field in his 10 year NBA career.

Not sure why somebody ranked Chuck Hayes high on the list. He would be at the back of the pack in my book. I was very surprised he stayed in the league as long as he did.

Tayshaun Prince is the one guy that I thought would never stay in, because he was so skinny. He ended up be a terrific pro player.

I thought Skal was a future star, even though he was a having a rough freshman season. He has had a few big games, this season. The young man just needed some confidence and muscle.

Nazr Mohammed was in terrible shape when he came to Kentucky. He was flabby as a freshman and ended up being a long time pro.

Past Kentucky coaches have missed out on Lexington and surrounding area players that ended up being NBA players. Evaluating talent is not an exact science. But, It just seems like the local kids who have pro potential have to go out of state to shine.

Rondo's average for 10 1/2 seasons is 10.7 points, 46.3% f/g percentage, 4.9 rebounds, 1.8 steals and 8.5 assists...

Rondo did not have an outside shot and that kept him from being the best point guard UK ever had. His defensive game was way ahead of his offensive game at the college level. The pro game was much more suited to Rondo's game.

I am that "somebody". Geez, you could at least be bothered enough to look at the name by the post. [Roll Eyes]

I rated him high because of his warrior heart. He lasted 12 years in the pros, played WAY above his stature, and gave yeoman-like numbers of 4 points, 5 boards, 1.2 assists, and a steal over that entire span. Teams put him on the floor for an average of 18 minutes per game; even in his last two years in Toronto, he saw the floor for a respectable 11 minutes per game. That indicates his value to the team more than any other stat.

Compare that resume to some other great UK players that fizzled in the pros, and maybe you can see why I rated him so highly. My list is subjective, as would yours be. I didn't compile a table of comparative stats, I merely gave my opinion. I would like to see your opinion too, instead of nitpicking others'.

Hey Tip, you've been called worse than "somebody" on here.😉

Oh yes, of course. My wife calls me worse than that when she summons me for dinner. [Smile]

Tip

Glad to see you include Louie Dampier. Was surprised when I didn't see him on the first list. He is a Hall of Famer. The only reason you might not include him is he spent 9 of his 12 seasons in the ABA before the merger. But he had a great professional career

18 seasons for Nazr Mohammed is quite impressive as well

Damper made me think of Pat Riley. He played several years in the NBA, I have no idea what his stats were. He might be a stretch for this list but he was a great UK player and played with Dampier.

Trouble is there are too many good ones. [Razz]

Riley had a 9 year NBA career but his stats were not as good as I thought they would be: Riley averaged 7.4 points per game, 41.4% f/g ave. 1.6, rebounds, and 1.7 assists.

NBA-ABA 20,000 minute men. We have 7 Cats that played over 20,000 minutes.

Louie Dampier
Cliff Hagan
Dan Issel
Jamal Mashburn
Rajon Rondo
Antoine Walker
Tayshaun Prince

[Eek!]

Wow. What an all-time all-star team! No true center there, but we could play a 3-guard, 2-forward set that would be awesome. Imagine Dampier and Prince tossing in three-pointers, Rondo running the point and driving the lane, and Issel, Walker, and Mashburn rotating in the paint.

Heck, Walker and Mashburn are decent three point shooters too. This team could compete with the Warriors playing their game. Put Big-boned Issel on the block, and let the others take turns on the perimeter.

Imagine adding either Davis, Mohamed, Boogie, Townes, or even Cauley-Stein to that crew. Then throw in Wall and Booker for more speed (Wall) and shooting (Booker).

We have been blessed to see some awesome players come through our program. This thread has been a great trip down memory lane!

TT, you look back on memory lane and you see some awfully talented basketball players that played for the Cats. The Kentucky program is second to none and Cal is moving the bar even higher with his recruiting talent. We are a lucky fan base for sure.
