Topic: Texas and Oklahoma reach out to SEC about joining the conference

Brent Zwerneman is a staff writer for the Houston Chronicle, and he dropped some major news this afternoon about the Texas Longhorns and Oklahoma Sooners reaching out about joining the SEC.
Greg Stanley declined comment on the situation, but according to Zwerneman, a decision could come quickly as to how this will proceed, perhaps within a few weeks.
Currently sitting at 14 teams in the conference, the last teams to join the SEC were Texas A&M and Missouri. As Zwerneman calls it this would become the first, “national super-conference.”
It is no secret the tradition that both schools would bring in with regard to their football programs, but with the growth of the Texas basketball program it should make for some competitive matchups in the future for Kentucky there as well.
In what is a HUGE piece of news on this Wednesday, this move would be mind-blowing when it comes to the football field. But both of the teams in the SEC West, and that then features several of the perennial powerhouses of the sport.
I mean, how much fun would it be to watch Alabama, LSU, Auburn, Oklahoma, and Texas all play each other in a season?
Expect news to keep coming out regarding this move, and be on the lookout for comments from conference commissioners on this potential change as well. We will know soon how true and how real this might become.

That would be some conference with 18 teams. You could then only play the 8 other teams in your side of the conference in football. Then you would have 2 real division winners playing for the SEC championship. In basketball you could play each of the other 17 teams 1 time and alternate home and home every other year. That would leave about 13 games to play non conference. More patsies for some teams but it could also be some great home and home series like UK and: Notre Dame, Duke, UNC, Mich St., UCLA, etc.

It's going to be interesting to see how this plays out as it has it's pros and cons.

Looks like it'll be '25 before they join any other conference anyway.
