The prestigious reputation of Kentucky basketball stretches all across the globe.

Since the arrival of John Calipari back in 2009, there hasn’t been many top high school basketball recruits that haven’t at least imagined what it would be like to play for the Cats.

That same sentiment likely goes hand in hand with recruits that may not be as highly coveted as traditional four and five-star recruits. The motivation to pick up a high-major offer can be a driving factor in the development of emerging players.

Some evidence of this can be found when looking at an up and coming prospect like A.J. Brown from Orlando Christian Prep. The 6-4, 170-pound point guard isn’t showing up on many of the major recruiting ranking services, but he is beginning to garner attention from power 5 schools.

But who does he really want to hear from?

“One school that I know I’d like to hear from is North Carolina and also Kentucky.” Brown told Travis Branham from 247 Sports.

Currently, Alabama has made themselves a player in Brown’s recruitment, but there is obviously a long way to go before it’s all said and done. Being in the class of 2022 there will be plenty of time for players like Brown to get more exposure against high-major competition.

Obviously at this moment in time A.J. Brown is not a caliber player that John Calipari would extend a scholarship offer to. But things can change and most expect him to begin a rapid climb in the rankings once play resumes.

Brown told 247 Sports what he would be looking for when he is ready to make a decision on where to play college basketball.

“I’m looking for a school that is good in transition, they move the ball in transition, they get good shots and open shots for their teammates,” He said. “Good coaching that put the kids in the right spots at the right times.”
