Is there an expert in the crowd that can recommend which anti virus I should use? If you are about to say "Norton", don't bother. They have pissed me off for the last time. I have used their product, plus Lifelock, for several years. It works fine, Every year they inform me that my annual payment will be automatically deducted on such and such date. I'll go to their website and turn off "automatic payment" and lo and behold! The next year, it's back on. Besides that, they have gone up to $150 a year. PC Matic has a lifetime subscription for that price!

Norm, if you have Windows 10, the built-in "Windows Defender" is pretty good. You just have to enable it.

Avast and BitDefender are free products that come with high ratings. Kaspersky is also very highly rated, and free, but it is a Russian product; I just can't bring myself to trust the Rooskies. I have seen far too much mischief in my work caused by them.

I also recommend Ad-Aware, which is free. I have used it for years with no issues.

Hope that helps!

Thank you Mister K. I'll see if I can enable the program on Windows 10.

I'm with Tip - Windows Defender/Microsoft Security Essentials will do the trick, and they're both a part of Windows.

I would never pay for antivirus software.

I have learned that to turn Defender on, you must delete any other anti virus, and it will turn on automatically. That's the way I understood it. Is that correct?

Hmmmm..... I am not sure. Microsoft seems to be picking up its old bad habits again.

From reading around the interwebs, it seems that indeed Windows Defender will turn off any other antivirus software. So, you will have to choose one... either Windows Defender or something else.
