No, I didn't pass away. I just went trout fishing with 7 other guys for 4 days. I only caught 51 and was soundly beaten by four of the other seven. I am indeed getting old, and refuse to sit out in the open water during the heat of the day. I would go out at daylight and stay for about four hours, then go back out late in the day. As most of you know, it was a VERY hot week. Some of the younger guys would immediately go back out after brunch and stay until dark. I was once that ignorant!

I brought 6 fresh fillets (three fish) home. Once they are frozen. they are pretty much not fit to eat in my opinion. Right out of the river, they are pretty good eating.

Norm, sometimes ignorance is bliss. I am sure that upon reflection that you would find that the fellowship with your buddies, and the trout, was well worth staying out in that heat.
I am with you on freezing the catch. Some species just aren't the same after frozen.
We used to freeze crappie and bluegill. Clean them, not fillet but just take off the scales, the heads, fins and tails and gut them. We put them in a plastic container and left room for plenty of water and into the deep freeze. When ready to eat we took out the block of ice, broke it up with a hammer and let it thaw. We then ran the fish through an old meat grinder, bones and all the kind you clamp to the edge of the table and made them so we could patty them up. Freezing them made the bones brittle and add a little corn meal, some time in a cast iron skillet and you had one heck of a fish patty.
