Once thought to be the favorite in the recruitment of Ryan Baer, it appears the Kentucky Wildcats might be on the verge of missing out on one of their top targets left in the Class of 2022.

When he officially visited on June 18th, the coaching staff brought it to make sure Baer left Lexington impressed. He met with UK commit Kiyaunta Goodwin and also got the chance to meet former Kentucky star Lynn Bowden.

Baer took some time to talk to KSR after his visit. This is one of the big takeaways quotes from that interview:

“He (Coach Wolford) was telling me what his plan is for me, the things they want to do these next years. Plus with the two commits they already have (Goodwin and Bingham), they’re trying to create the greatest offensive line class in this school’s history.”

Shortly after his visit to Lexington Baer took off to Michigan State, and they have been trending ever since.

Wednesday morning that trend continued, as three insiders for the Spartans (each with over 90% success rates) each logged 247 Crystal Ball picks in favor of Michigan State. This is also after four of the last five Rivals FutureCast predictions logged have been for the Spartans.

Of course, recruiting predictions don’t mean this is a done deal by any stretch, but it’s not the greatest sign for Kentucky’s chances either.

Baer, weighing in at 6-foot-8 331 pounds, is currently ranked as the 31st-best offensive tackle in the country, according to Rivals. He is also considered the 10th-best prospect in Ohio by Rivals as well.

Norte Dame was thought to be the big competition in this recruitment for the Cats, but after a canceled visit to South Bend, it appears the Spartans might have the slight edge.

Never count out Kentucky when Vince Marrow is in on the prospect, but it seems like he will have his work cut out to pull off the upset in this recruitment.
