Defending His Store, Now Denied Bond
(its ok to riot and destroy but not defend - what a FU&*$d up country)
A Virginia shop clerk, Hamzeh Abushariah, has been arrested and the D.A. is refusing to let him be bailed out. He heroically fought off robbers defending the store. If not for his brave actions he could easily have been killed, but that's not the way police see it and now he is being incarcerated for standing his ground.
"A Virginia store employee was jailed with no bond after shooting at three masked intruders who allegedly broke into the business, wounding one of them, WJLA-TV reported — and the owner of the Arlington Smoke Shop is outraged at authorities.
Arlington County Police said three suspects forced their way into the smoke shop to steal cash and merchandise just before 5 a.m. Sunday, the station said.
Hamzeh Abushariah, 33 — who was temporarily staying at the store and sleeping in a back room — got up and grabbed one of two guns that store owner Jowan Aqrawi purchased two weeks ago due to concerns over coronavirus crime spikes, WJLA reported.
"We bought protection for the store just in case, because on Facebook you see a lot of robberies, a lot of things going on," Aqrawi explained to the station.
Abushariah opened the door to the sales floor and fired the gun, hitting one of the suspects — a juvenile, police told WJLA. He then retreated to the backroom before reentering the sales floor and firing the gun again as the suspects tried to flee the business, police added to the station.
The wounded juvenile is expected to survive, the station noted, adding that breaking and entering charges are anticipated for the trio of alleged intruders."
"Abushariah was charged with malicious wounding, reckless handling of a firearm and violating a protective order, according to a police statement obtained by local blog ARLNow. Arlington Police also told WJLA that the charge of violation of a protective order related to Abushariah reportedly being ordered not to have a firearm.
"It's very sad for America today as American citizens practice their Second Amendment to protect the store and their lives," Zuber said. "Do you know what the [responding] police officer told him [Abushariah]? 'Why didn't you run out the back door?'"
This is ridiculous he was defending the store and potentially his life. These charges seem flimsy at best. But considering it's Virginia who knows what legislation the Gun grabbing Gov Northam might have quietly passed through to hurt gun owners. Hamzeh Abushariah should have been praised by the police, but instead, the police told him he should have run away. I guess in Virginia you are not allowed to defend yourself...

He made three mistakes, IMO. He opened fire without first confronting the intruders, he shot a minor, and he shot at the others as they were fleeing.
That is excessive use of force. He should have demanded that they leave, and then fired a warning shot to demonstrate his intentions. Had they been armed, or had they not left at his request, or worse, had they tried to attack him, he would then be justified in shooting.

He should have shot all three. Perfectly justified. I hope he gets cleared of all charges. So what if he's a juvenile, you play Big boy games you get Big boy prizes.

The protests that are happening at this time are giving criminals the opportunity to commit crimes. I believe the honest and law-abiding Black people who are involved in the protests should stop those actions.

Respecfully disagree with you tip:
1. If anyone comes in ur house/business i.e. breadking and entering - you have the right to shoot them.
2. Minor - no one knows if that person is or not, in that instance of time
3. In the spur of the moment where they fleeing or maybe he thought they were going elsewhere in the store to rob..
Nope - he was justified in shooting - VA is a screwed up state that is making it easier and easier for criminals to roam freely and do what they want!

I do think he should have warned them before shooting, but if it had been me, there would have been a VERY short elapse of time between warning and shots fired! Why didn't he run out the back door? Give me a break.

Norm this is a spur of the moment decision that is life threating - that is the prb with all the politicians talking about reform now. (Pls disregard the Floyd incident cause that was wrong - maybe not the arrest but the restraint).
Until you have been in a life changing event most have no idea what a "split second" decision means..
This man was right in his response to a violent breaking and entering - run or fight! He chose to fight which is what a cop (or military) does when he is confronted with a potential violent situation!

Amen ukc ... fight or flight is a split second thing. They were wrong in breaking and entering and I too believe he has the right to defend the store and himself. I would have told the police "YOU" might have run out the back door but I am staying to defend my self and the store. If the robbers had killed him everyone would be saying why didn't he just shoot them first ?!?!?
