How many coal plants are there in the world today?
==============================

The EU has 468 - building 27 more.. Total 495

Turkey has 56 - building 93 more... Total 149

South Africa has 79 - building 24 more... Total 103

India has 589 - building 446 more... Total 1036

Philippines has 19 - building 60 more... Total 79

South Korea has 58 - building 26 more... Total 84

Japan has 90 - building 45 more... Total 135

China has 2363 - building 1171 more... Total 3534

That’s 5,615projected coal powered plants in just 8 countries.

USA has 15 - building 0 more...Total 15

. and Democrat politicians with their "green new deal" want to shut down those 15 plants in order to "save" the planet.

Because you could not get many Republicans off the sofa last November, the Socialist party now runs the U.S. House Of Representatives.

While the number of coal-fired plants has steadily declined, and you are correct that there are no new coal-fired plants being developed in the United States, your number is waaaay low. There were 359 coal-fired plants in the US as of 2017. Here are the numbers by year:

Year
2007 606
2008 598
2009 593
2010 580
2011 589
2012 557
2013 518
2014 491
2015 427
2016 381
2017 359

Sure has been a steady decline, but there are a heck of a lot left to go.

I currently work at a coal fired plant that produces the electricity for the University of Kentucky. 29 years of service. The place has been under construction all 29 years I've been there. All of that construction has been EPA/ Clean Air Act related.

Was repeating an article....however,

Not too many people know that in 2009 there were 1436 coal-powered units at the electrical utilities across the United States of America. Anyway, statistics show that the average share of electricity generated from coal in the US has dropped from 52.8% in 1997 to 45.0% in 2009.

This article disagrees with the number of of plants in 2009 but it does show in Tips article that the number has decreased significantly to 2017...

Appears the Obama admin made good on their promise to close down the coal plants in the U.S.
