Former Kentucky star Jack “Goose” Givens tore an Achilles tendon while playing in the Alumni Charity Game in Rupp Arena on Friday night. He underwent surgery Tuesday.

Givens, who turns 61 on Sept. 21, scored 41 points in UK’s 94-88 victory over Duke in the 1978 national championship game.

Before the charity game, which featured former Kentucky players, Givens made light of the suggestion that he had retained his basketball skills.

“Am I expected to?” he quipped.

Givens tore his right Achilles tendon early in the Alumni Charity Game.
