Well, what do you know.

After reportedly being “all-in” on being part of the 2022 NBA Draft, Keion Brooks Jr. has now decided to return to college for his senior season, according to Jeff Goodman.

Though Brooks has been widely projected to go undrafted if he remained in the draft, he has made it clear that playing in the NBA this fall was his ultimate goal.

However, even if Brooks made an NBA roster, he was going to be paid very little and likely on a non-guaranteed contract, whereas he could potentially make millions of dollars through NIL at many colleges.

That’s why returning to school has always looked like the best option for Brooks, so it’s good to see he finally realized this.

I would think that he may be starting to realize if he ever wants to make the NBA he will have to improve his game a lot. He does not show a consistent ability tyo play in the NBA. His fearsness does not show thru except on very few -plays and he does not have a consistent 3 pt shot.

The idea that any college player can make "millions of dollars" in NIL is silly. Brooks might be able to make some money from NIL simply because he plays at UK (more perhaps than an undrafted contract g-league player), but that is only for one more year.

Then?

The reality of NIL will become apparent soon. Right now, it is all hype (with a whiff of potential corruption). Let's see how it works in five years. A few genuine superstars at the Big Schools will make some NIL money, but not many. And those superstars will make even more in the NBA. I suspect that NIL will pass quickly into another overhyped, disappointing idea.

Remember when graduating players would go on a statewide "barnstorming tour" to make a little cash? Yeah. That might just return...

Tip, I pray that you are correct. NIL is not a good thing for college sports.

Hopefully Calipari talked to him and gave him some much-needed advice concerning the NBA.
