Evansville's shocking win over blue-blood Kentucky on Tuesday night tied for the third biggest college basketball upset in the past 15 seasons, according to ESPN Stats and Info.

The Wildcats, ranked No. 2 in the coaches poll and No. 1 in the Associated Press poll, were 25-point favorites before the Purple Aces shocked the college basketball world in Lexington. Evansville was picked to finish eighth of 10 teams in the Missouri Valley Conference, while Kentucky had just knocked off preseason No. 1 Michigan State in its season-opener last week.

“I don’t know if anything matches this, other than winning a national championship,” Evansville coach Walter McCarty, who won a national title with Kentucky as a player, told reporters in his postgame news conference.

I read this link and I admit I don’t fully understand the criteria used or for that matter, even partially. In short I don’t but this at all.

To me Gardner Webb was the worst loss, and the loss to Evansville is second.

Any loss under Billy G shouldn't count. He was a turd of a coach and never had a really talented team. [Smile]

My vote: this Evansville loss and the NIT loss at Robert Morris are the two worst losses.

The overall #1 loss in basketball will always be #1 Virginia losing to Division-II Chaminade in the Maui Invitational when Ralph Sampson was at Virginia.

I'm shocked that the Number 1 seed Virginia losing to a 16 seed team in the NCAA tourney would have to be ranked up there pretty high too!

Seems like maybe the two worst losses in NCAA history belong to Virginia.

Another way to look at it: What seems like one of the worst losses ever to us, is probably one of the best wins ever for Evansville fans. I just wish it had happened to dook.
