There was nothing special about this Dook team. You take Zion off that team and they're barely in the top-25.

Just saw on ESPN.COM - "Duke should retire Zion's jersey." WHAT A LAUGH!!!

They had the number 1 the num 2 the num 3 and the num 10 players plus hold overs like bolden(sic) and can't make it to the FF... Just goes to prove (as we are finding out) that experience beats freshmen any day!

I hope our coach figures it out as shooters is what wins not jump out of the gym athletics like we have...

I think Cal's focus on length and athleticism has been what has powered our defensive efficiency, but Ed is right -- surely we can find some long, athletic guys who can shoot.

Actually, we have been blessed with some of those, but Cal's offense keeps our big guys in the paint, and isn't designed to get our shooters open shots on the perimeter. It is drive and score, drive and dish, or pass to the post. The kick-out from the post to the open shooter is an option, but it certainly isn't a featured option.

One thing that we discussed here on the domain earlier in this season was how effective offensive spacing can be. This team was not so good at that. We rely too much on hand-offs in the weave, and the pick-and-roll, both of which hamper spacing. The teams that give us the most problems play with great spacing, crisp passing, strong outside shooting, and opportunistic drives to the basket.

Next year, with no proven post players (Travis is gone, and PJ is almost dead certain to be in the draft), maybe Cal will focus more on spacing and getting our guards open lanes to drive or open shots. It has been proven to work.

We gave up waaaaaaay too many points because Travis, Richards, PJ or EJ ended up guarding the opponents PG! That irked me to no end all season long.

I believe if Kentucky gets the two starting guards back, they can beat anybody in the nation and will win it all, next year.

This team flat out got outplayed and beat at the 1 and 2 guard positions. They have worlds of talent. They got doe eyed on the big stage. They will dominate, if they return.

I don't hold any ill will against a kid that leaves for the pros. But, not sure if those two young men would get drafted in the first round.

I think the best guard in the tourney is Michigan States PG.

boom,

Herro will not be back unless he just decides he wants to come back. He is going to be a lottery pick after going through the draft process. He is already projected top 20.

Wife's Mad. Told me we never talk anymore. And just last nite while watching super bowl told her 2 or 3 times to get me a coke and popcorn. Also told her not to forget to take out trash in the morning. Ain't that something. Also told me I was too indecisive. Can't figure out what to do about that. One nice thing I guess. She called me a pro crastinator. Don't know what a crastinator is but I guess I'm a good one for her to call me a pro. Gonna wait til tomorrow to look that up though. I love her but somrtimes can't help but thinking I should have told uncle Junior to keep his coon hound pup and stevens double barrel and also his youngest daughter.

I agree with Trey. Herro has done what Shai did last year -- played himself into a huge salary next year. But, I agree with you too... if we got Herro and Hagans back, we would be damn solid. Looks like it will be Quickly and maybe Hagans, but I suspect the latter will make a bad decision and try the draft.

If Maxey is as good as advertised, we will be OK with Maxey and Quickly and Johnson on the perimeter, and EJ and Nick inside. While I prefer to see us develop a solid upperclassman at point, I think we will only see freshmen point guards at UK.

I like Herro. I think he has worlds of talent. I don’t see him as a lottery pick. I sure don’t. Doesn’t mean I am right. Yes, I think he is a future pro. Not sure if he is a 1st round pick this year. If he declares for the draft, I hope he does go in the first round.

Herro struggles against quick defenders, that's all he'll see in the NBA,I think he'll go but will struggle, he would be better served to come back and develop some foot speed and work on his defense

Herro is a kid who would probably go 20-30 in this year's draft, or 5-10 next year. The choice is his.

Well i used to think this site was respectable, but not so sure anymore. They have Hagans and Johnson going first round, PJ in the second and Herro undrafted.

https://www.nbadraft.net/2019mock_draft

Lottery is top 15. I doubt Herro goes that high.

I don't believe in draft polls after the first 4 or 5. It all depends on who needs what positions the worse. Another factor is the foreign players in the draft that the so called prognosticators don't always know. I imagine Zion will be #1 but it is not assured if the first picker needs a PG very bad and therefor Ja could go first. Just look how KAT climbed into the top spot at the end.

We all know the weaknesses of our group of freshmen, and upper classmen. We know what another year would do for their draft ranking. But these kids sometimes don't want to believe the facts. Therefor, they decide to go in the draft and end up wishing they had stayed another year. Herro, Johnson and Hagans are in that category. I don't see how any of them could hurt their ranking by staying 1 more year. That is unless they are just not as good as they have been advertised and a second year would prove it. So if they stay and are proven not as good as advertised, and they hurt themselves over going now and getting some big bucks and then falling on their face, the thing they have done is get the money but not a long term career.

More times than not foreign players get thrown in there that most people have never heard of. That has tendency of throwing a wrench in the gears!

These last two posts by Bama Cat and MH are spot on. The first five picks of a mock draft are usually simple, then it's anyone guess. You always have a player or two sitting in the green room for about 20 picks longer than they were projected (just like Skal Labissiere). And there's no telling how many foreign players are gonna get drafted. I think NBA teams stay hush on foreigners because they don't want them to be high profile.

They think their foreign player is unknown and they can grab him.

I just do not see Hagans as going in either the first or second round of the NBA. He definitely needs another year to develop his game. His decision making, especially late in the season, was not very good. Plus those 7 turnovers in the game against Auburn stand out like a sort thumb. He lacks an outside shot and is not a real strong ball handler or passer.

There's not a single one of these boys that I don't want to see succeed, but it's obvious that a few of them will be better served to improve their game in Lexington 1 more season (at least) before moving on to the next level. PJ is a prime example of what can happen if you remain patient!

I wish the best for PJ. But, that young man needs to get a free throw doctor and get his percentage up at the charity stripe.
