Lamar Thomas had spent time at Western Kentucky and Louisville trying to beat Kentucky. Now he’s part of the UK coaching staff that will try to end a losing skid against the Cardinals in November.

So how has his perception of UK football changed in recent months?

“What coach (Mark) Stoops is doing is developing a culture. Guys are starting to step up and be leaders. In my room, those guys are starting to take it to heart,” Thomas said. “They want to be outstanding people. They want to do right.

“They want to go to class, study hall. Well, I don’t know if they want to, but they know that is their deal and is what they are here for. They are student-athletes and I let them know you are a student first and athlete second. Without the student part, there would be no athlete. It’s just a winning attitude.

“Being able to finish is important and why we are out there chasing them and making sure they are working. It’s just changing the whole attitude here.”
