It's good to see Boom becoming a leader of this team. I think that is one thing that has been missing from this team, every team needs a player that is a leader.
There weren’t many bright spots to uncover following Kentucky’s 63-31 loss to Georgia Saturday at Commonwealth Stadium.
The loss, the Wildcats’ fourth straight after opening the season with five wins in six games, leaves the team scrambling for an elusive sixth victory with two games remaining. Kentucky is at Tennessee Saturday, followed by a bye week and a regular-season finale at Louisville on Nov. 29.
Kentucky coach Mark Stoops found little to build on following the loss but was encouraged by the performance of freshman running back Stanley “Boom” Williams, who finished with 100-yards rushing on 10 carries. Williams had a 56-yard touchdown run in the second quarter and became just the sixth player in the nation to rush for a score of 50 yards of more three times this season.
It was the second career 100-yard rushing outing for Williams, who collected a career-high 104 yards in a 48-14 win over Louisiana Monroe on Oct. 11 at Commonwealth Stadium. The outing was the best for a Kentucky rusher in a month.
Williams, who is from Monroe, Georgia, liked his final numbers, but was more worried about the outcome. He added playing the Bulldogs wasn’t an extra motivation.
“I just wanted to come out and win the game and send the seniors out on a good note in their last home game,” he said. “It’s your home team and Georgia is a good team. I just wanted to win the game. It’s kind of disappointing, but we’re going to get back to work this week.”
