He sure has the credential to win the award, good luck to him.
University of Kentucky senior defensive end/linebacker Alvin “Bud” Dupree, who leads all active Southeastern Conference players in sacks, has been named a quarterfinalist for the 2014 Lott IMPACT Trophy, it was announced Wednesday.
Dupree is one of 20 student-athletes across the nation to be named a quarterfinalist for the prestigious award, which honors a student-athlete that best embodies Integrity, Maturity, Performance, Academics, Community and Tenacity (IMPACT). Dupree is one of four SEC student-athletes on the list, joining Landon Collins (Alabama), A.J. Johnson (Tennessee) and Deterrian Shackelford (Ole Miss).
Dupree, who was named to the midseason All-SEC Team by Phil Steele earlier this week, is having a great season with Kentucky with 35 tackles, including 4.5 tackles for loss, a team-best three sacks, one interception, one pass breakup and three quarterback hurries.
The star has made a habit of making game-changing plays this season as his interception against South Carolina was Kentucky’s first game-winning interception for a touchdown since 1998. The following week, Dupree blocked a ULM field goal attempt that helped spark 45 unanswered points from the Wildcats.
In his career, Dupree has played in 42 games with 208 tackles, 29 tackles for loss, 19 sacks and five pass breakups. His 19 career sacks lead all active SEC players and ranks tied for second best in UK history.
