He is playing fantastic defense for a guy that came here to play wide receiver.
Kentucky junior Josh Forrest has been tabbed an honorable mention for Linebacker Performer of the Week after totaling two tackles for a loss and a game-winning interception return for a touchdown in UK’s win over Louisiana-Monroe, it was announced by the College Football Performance Awards on Monday.
A native of Paducah, Ky., Forrest totaled five tackles, including two tackles for loss and half a sack in UK’s win over ULM. Forrest totaled his second career interception, returning it 29 yards for a touchdown, with his score accounting for the game-winning points and pushing UK to a 17-14 lead. It marked the second consecutive week that the Wildcats scored the game-winning points on an interception return for a touchdown as Bud Dupree picked off a pass vs. South Carolina and trotted into the end zone for the win.
A 6-foot-3, 236-pounder, Forrest has started all six games for the Wildcats at middle linebacker in 2014, leading the team with 46 tackles. Forrest has added a sack and five tackles for loss, breaking up two passes and charting one QB hurry. In his three-year career, Forrest – who began his time at UK as a wide receiver – has 75 tackles in 27 games.
Kentucky (5-1, 2-1 Southeastern Conference) is off to its best start since the 2007 season and has won three consecutive games. UK will return to action on Saturday, traveling to LSU for a 7:30 p.m. ET kickoff on the SEC Network.
