A game like the Cats played is the kind that will give you a ton on optimism.

One thing Mark Stoops has had to do at Kentucky is manage expectations. He did that most of last year when UK went 2-10. But how will he handle that now that his Cats have opened the season with a 59-14 win over UT-Martin?

“That’s a good question. I think I’ve been saying all along that we’re better. I think it was privy evident today we were better. Watching our team practice the other day and watching our offense go up and down the field on air, it’s evident they were better,” Stoops said.

“I’ve said it over and over again, there were times when we couldn’t do the basics; and we are significantly better, and we’re significantly getting better playmakers.

“So I have a lot of optimism. I don’t know, we always take it one day at a time and one week at a time. Again, I know that’s boring, but we’re 1-0 and excited about that and look forward to getting back to work and prepare to get one next week.’
