The Kentucky Wildcats knew what they were getting when 6-3 combo guard Tyrese Maxey signed his letter of intent to play there back in November of 2018: A tough, hard-nosed player that also ranked in the top 10 of the Class of 2019.

The No. 3 ranked combo guard has continued to take his training to a more serious level, impressing NBA scouts at Chris Paul’s camp, per CBS Sports’ reporter Jon Rothstein.

Maxey will make up half of what could be college’s best back court. Combining him with defensive-minded Ashton Hagan, who was the No. 1 point guard of the Class of 2018, should create a formidable duo on both ends of the court.

The man that’ll help develop his career, head coach John Calipari, also believes Maxey will be able to compete with the NCAA’s best.

“Tyrese has unbelievable competitive spirit. I love Tyrese’s basketball savvy. He has an elite ability to score the ball, yet he creates shots for his teammates, he defends and he rebounds. In all the time I’ve watched him play, rarely does he make the wrong play.”
