Just an observation

Has anybody else noticed that the phrase "I mean" has replaced "Ya know" in common conversation.

Seems like in almost every interview on television responses always begin with "I mean" , especially with athletes.

I agree, Jarcat. I still remember from speech 101 back in 1988 that you're supposed to avoid these types of phrases when talking in public. To this day, I still pay attention to when people say 'um' when talking on TV.

And then there is the universal add-on "I know, riiiight?"

Watching the US Open this morning I saw two straight interviews of golfers. They must've started sentences with "I mean" about 10 times each. Every time i hear this I will think of you, Jarcat. [Smile]

Cal in his time as Kentucky’s head coach has opined about everything from players “pooping ice cream” to being “everybody’s Super Bowl.”

Bruce, that article is almost seven years old. I was reading right along until they started talking about Marcus Lee!
