The recent topic of HOW DOES has me wondering WHAT DO people look like. I don’t know how to post a picture but I often wonder what the people I talk to look like. I assume, like me, y’all are stunningly handsome fellers.

I don't think this site allows us to post a pic without a link. I was told in high school I looked like Fred Flintstone. Now add some gray hair and a pot belly where I like to store my beer and french fries. Instead of the animal skin suit put on some sweats and a t-shirt. Close enough!

To post a picture here, it must be on the web somewhere. I really don't want to say who some people say I look like, but I've had several people say, "OH, you look just like Jimmy 'Cotta'!" I shouldn't get pssed off, but I do. I haven't voted for a democrat since Jimmy broke me from doing so!

Well, for years I always said I looked like my Mom with a mustache. I'm sure that's a lot of help.

I'm snow white headed and my hair is getting wavy. (It's waving goodbye) 6' tall and 280 lbs green eyes.

I used to lift some back in the day, really enjoyed it. Btw, what's been your best bench? Mine was 335.

Daggum, 335 is really gettin after it. I was more in the 200 range, and that was in high school. Side note, my son is 14 and plays football. I joined a gym about 6 months ago and he goes with me a couple times a week to lift/do some cardio. I can still out lift him on every thing, but he's gettin really close to catching the old man. I bet by the time next season rolls around, I'll be looking up at his numbers.

I was really into it for about 3 years in my 30's...even took a few cycles of 'roids' to get over the "plateaus"....no big deal then.

#385 is best gym bench ever, I won KY State power lifting contest in the North American Strength Association back in '95-'96 in Bardstown KY with a #365 competitive bench. I competed in the 242 lb Novice class. Actually won Indiana State that same year in Indy.

The difference between a gym bench and a contest is you have to pause the bar on your chest at the bottom until a judge sitting behind you says "PRESS". Singlets were required, a bench shirt was allowed.

I can still press #300 at my 53 years of age!

About 4 years ago I told myself I was shooting for #400, 385 was my best and was the closest I got!

Diet and supplements are a lot better today than they were 35-40 years ago when I first started lifting! I never tried Steroids, not sure I'd know what one looked like if it hit me in the nose!

And that is a huge, huge difference...my 335 was definitely the classic rapid lower, bounce-off-the-chest, arch-your-back maneuver.

If I stay at those biscuits & gravy long enough I might just get to 300. Pretty sure standing up counts as a press. If not, it should.

Dang! you are a serious lifter, mh.

Most folks don't realize the time, training, technique, skill and effort it takes to reach that competitive level....much more to it than some big guy throwing around dumbbells.

I had a pretty good training partner, my brother. He used to post on here years ago. He competed in the 100 Kilo class (220#) while I competed in the 120 kilo class (242#)

I've been lifting off an don for the past 41 years. I have a mashed right index finger to prove it. During the '78 Blizzard I was lifting ni the basement of my parents house. Back then military press was one of the only lifts I knew, along with the bench press. I dropped a 120# barbell (the old concrete weights) and mashed my rt index finger between the barbell and a pool table. Bled like a stuck pig! My father made a splint out of a bleach bottle and some tape to protect it! I was 11 years old at the time!

Anyone interested in getting stronger, go heavier with fewer reps. Sets of three are highly recommended. Once you can do a weight at 6 reps it's time to up the weight!

MH, you can almost bench press two of me!

I was 5'3", 102 pounds when I graduated high school at age 16. By the end of my sophomore year of college I was 6' tall. And if y'all are wondering, the answer is yes - I had no girlfriends in high school. [Smile]

Today I hover around 195 pounds. I keep trying to get down to around 175, but food keeps getting in the way of those plans.

Paul, I totally understand. I didn't reach 100 lbs until I was in High School. Went into the USAF 8 years later and weighed in at 132. Got up to 152 in the next year, got married and dropped right back to 132! The most I've never gotten over 175 ad that's about where I am now. Mostly belly!
