"Yes... let’s all join in the hatred of all police for the sins of a few. Let’s defund one of the most important public institutions in our countries history. Let’s have all badges removed and allow people to tend to their own safety and security.

But before you do so, Let me tell you about the badge and the thousands of good men and women it represents.

The Badge

This badge ran towards certain death as the Towers collapsed on 9-11.

This badge ran into the line of fire to save the people in the Pulse Night Club.

This badge sheltered thousands as bullets rained down from the Mandalay Hotel in Las Vegas.

This badge protected a BLM rally that left five officers dead in Dallas.

This badge ran into the Sandy Hook School to stop a school shooter.

This badge killed the Oregon District mass shooter in seconds.

This badge has done CPR on your drowned child.

This badge has fist fought the wife beater who left his spouse in a coma.

This badge has run into burning buildings to save the occupants.

This badge has been shot for simply existing.

This badge has waded through flood waters to rescue the elderly trapped on the roof.

This badge has intentionally crashed into the wrong way driver to protect innocent motorists.

This badge has helped find the lost child

This badge has helped the injured dog off the road and rushed it to the vet.

This badge has escorted the elderly woman across the street because she couldn't see well and was afraid to cross.

This badge has bought food for hungry kids because they had been abandoned.

This badge has been soaked in blood and tears.

This badge has been covered by a mourning band to honor those who have sacrificed everything in service.

You may hate me because I wear it. But, I wear it with pride. Despite your hate and your anger, I will await the next call for help. And, I will come running without hesitation. Just like the thousands of men and women across this great nation.

Every cop, cop friend, cop relative, and supporter should copy & paste!!!

I just did

I believe that sometime in my life I have heard of a political agenda that is more stupid than “defund the police.” I’m still thinking. There just has to be a more stupid idea in my 74 years. I’ll get back to you Jarcat when I think of it.

AMEN TO THAT, HANDY, AMEN.

As someone who has strong ties to active police officers and lots of retired police, I get a lump in my throat and my eyes get misty every time I read this.

We have a sign in our yard that says:

WE RESPECT AND SUPPORT THE POLICE

A couple of nights ago someone took it. I'm sure it was to put in their own yard. But no worries, I promptly put out a replacement sign.

I can't understand why anyone except a criminal would want less police presence.

Can you blame the Seattle Chief of Police for resigning her position? They only cut her salary by $100,000!

I told my wife that seemed like a lot of money, but.... I have no earthly idea what the cost of living in Seattle is compared to living in the Midwest along the Ohio River just about every day of my life!
I see some of the apartments in a place like NYC that have a more expensive annual rent than my entire house cost and it's not 30 years old yet!

Listen, Mel, I'm not anti-police...anything but. I respect and acknowledge the difficult, dangerous, and far too often, life-or-death decisions they sometimes must make. The vast majority are good people trying to do their job the right way. But where are they when it comes to calling out the "few bad apples" that tarnish them all.

The blue wall of silence, and the us-vs-them attitude is a serious problem also...we should also acknowledge that and hold accountable those who blatantly violate their sworn duties to serve and protect...where are all the good guys when one of their own guns down a citizen in the back or chokes him to death.

Police are granted enormous power with broad discretion of enforcement. It takes a special person to be a cop...those who are not should be outed, not protected, by the many who are...accountability, Mel...just because you enforce the law does not place you above the law.

M&M, i’ll Be honest you put a couple of posts on here that really irked me.

I think your last post explained your position much better. I believe most of us think cops, like everybody else, needs to be held accountable for their actions.

I just don’t see how “defunding” them is the answer.

You always are, hc. That's why anything you post never offends me...you speak from your heart...not a position.

Defunding is the worst possible choice of words. I think refunding is better. Police today are tasks with responsibilities they are simply not trained for, and shouldn't be. Police need help in the form of mental health and other social service professionals, not military equipment. They're dealing with citizens...not insurgents.

I can't wait to see the outcome of sending social workers in to domestic violence calls. [Roll Eyes]

As to your question, the two incidents you mentions were handled immediately and publicly. The officer who killed the man in Minneapolis by chocking him will face murder charges, and the man who tased the man fleeing in Atlanta is potentially facing the death penalty. The former I don't think anybody disagrees with. The last one is far more controversial. Honestly, after watching the video of the entire situation, I cannot imagine he should face the death penalty.

There are thousands of police departments. Most are very transparent and do not tolerate bullsh*t and bad behavior. The ones who do are (unsurprisingly) the usually large metro police departments operating in overwhelmingly democrat cities. My proposal is instead of 'defunding' or "re-funding" the police, vote out the democrat machines that run our crime-ridden cities.

DEFUND THE DEMS

Tip:

Who is suggesting doing that?

quote:

Irrefutable video evidence, dozens of witnesses and public outrage has a tendency to do that. I suspect, however, there are many more "incidents" where none of this exist, and, well, that's it.

He won't get the death penalty. If he doesn't plea down to a lesser charge a jury will settle on one, if, in fact, he is convicted. I know I wouldn't support the death penalty.

I watched the entire video also. The man clearly and forcefully resisted arrest. I think the officer would have been justified using deadly force at the point he took the taser from the officer during the struggle and they were still in close proximity with each other...he was a clear and present danger to both officers. Once he broke and ran and was apparently getting away, it's just hard to justify shooting him down at that point. They had his driver's license, his car, his address and he was facing several felonies...he wasn't going anywhere for long.

You may be right, but that is hard to determine since a large majority of states have laws that limit or disallows all together public access to police personnel files.

Again, you may be right since they also are among the worse for shielding police misconduct.
