Thank goodness Ryan only has a few more months as Speaker of the House. He is worse than Boehner if that is possible.

The FBI and DOJ are thumbing their collective noses at Congress, keeping evidence hidden, being autonomous, and answering to no one.
Congress looks like a bunch of chumps, when they are suppose to have over sight of the FBI and DOJ.

They're supposed to be a check on the president as well...not much of that going on either. I agree, they are a bunch of chumps.

Big difference between congressional oversight duties and the "checks and balances" among the three branches. Congress has NO oversight responsibilities over the President. The "checks and balances" are systemic -- e.g., congress makes laws, the President must sign them to take effect. President proposes a budget, but congress actually passes whatever they choose. Those systemic features, plus the ability to vote in different parties to control congress versus who sits in the Oval Office are all there is.
Of course, the congress can impeach a president, which I think is what you are hinting at, MM. I have never seen so much hysteria and hostility directed towards a President (I thought GWB had it bad!) as what we see from the Left. But he has done nothing impeachable, despite your fervent hopes.
And, for the record, I agree with Ryan. Boom, your concept of everyone being in lock-step with the right-most elements of congress are borderline dictatorial. Mr. Ryan has every right to present his rebuff of the desire to impeach the FBI guy. It will serve no good purpose, and targets only one person. I think a more thorough investigation into the politicization of the Justice department is in order. [ 07-27-2018, 11:17 AM: Message edited by: Tiptree ]

Rosenstien doesn't want to hand over evidence, because he is guilty.
The DOJ won't prosecute themselves.
These are bad times we live in.

No, what I'm referring to is how this republican congress, with the exception of a handful (and the majority of these are not running for re-election), will not criticize Trump for anything at all, fearful he might point his tweeter finger at them.
With the blind loyalty of his no-line-is-too-far base, Trump has them by the short hairs and he knows it...and they know it.
This is what I meant by no check by congress. Congress can make life very difficult for the president. They're not powerless...unless they choose to be.

Well, sometimes Presidents deserve it.

Trump may toot his own horn a wee bit too often but the economic numbers released today are the direct result of Trump doing away with all the Obama Administration rules and regulations retarding the American Business Community. You will find few if any American Corporations that were happy with the Obama administration and how they handled economic affairs. Trump may be a blow hard but his actions are certainly producing financial results that are helping the every day American working families and that will go a long way toward keeping the house and senate under the control of the Republican party at least until 2020. Exactly right Ray - here are some nums that back it up.
Trump now 4.1 2.2 2.3 2.8 3.0
Obama fm jan 17 back (also called "the new norm" by Obama) 1.8 1.3 1.9 2.3 1.5 0.4 1.0
Obama was the total package 1. horrible overseas detente 2. horrible domestic economy 3. horrible race relations
And the left loved him! go figure

MM, They didn't follow him too blindly. They didn't vote to repeal Obamacare, which was one of his campaign promises. There are still a lot of Republican swampers who hate Trump almost as much as liberal Democrats do.

These numbers are great and I hope they continue, but one quarter does not a Presidency make...Obama topped it 4 times.
EC quote: They didn't vote to repeal Obamacare, which was one of his campaign promises.
The problem is he also promised to replace Obamacare. Remember (paraphrasing)..."The best, cheapest universal healthcare ever...easy to do". He made it sound like you'd wanna get sick just to use it. It turned out that just throwing 30 million people off healthcare without a viable alternative didn't go over too well.

yea difference is Obama gave money in the form of a stimulus {think windmills} which drove up that particular quarter whereas Trump changed Obama regulations to the benefit of Americans.
plus obama's record prior to trump is terrible..
big difference
Liberals just can not embrace something good for the United Sates. They would rather see it fail than admit positive news...
ur 2nd point - if the rep I mean dem mccain voted yes it would have been overturned [ 07-28-2018, 09:57 AM: Message edited by: ukcatfannfl ]

Trump just gave rich and already highly profitable corporations a 40% tax cut...wonder if that had anything to do with his numbers? Btw, it was 4 different quarters for Obama.

That was a year ago...besides, there was 2 other rep senators that voted against it.

And, of course, that automatically makes it wrong...whether it is or not.

1 getting rid of regulations fm the obama admin {4 different qtrs is worse as it shows he had to do short term fixes. Trumps is taking effect plus ck my figures n another post, trump treading uup whereas obama got worse and worse.}
2 yep {you can invite several a month and give med care if u like}
You have zero on the domestic economy so quit making up shkkkkt.
also btw u have nothing on overseas policy and u have nothing on race relations so accept the fact obama was a terrible president and trump is doing what he campaigned on. It would be better if some of the career politicians would get their heads out of the sand..
Im tired of talking with you as libs can not and will not believe facts only their own talking points. have a great weekend and remember trump for 2020 [ 07-28-2018, 11:50 AM: Message edited by: ukcatfannfl ]
