There has been little to celebrate for Kentucky basketball fans since a shocking season-ending loss to No. 15 seed Saint Peter's in the NCAA Tournament.

Until Wednesday at least.

Beloved star forward Oscar Tshiebwe, who swept the major National Player of the Year awards, is returning to school. The projected second-round pick announced he will delay starting a professional career for at least one more year in order to play for Kentucky again next season.

Wow. That is EXCELLENT news! Wonder if he can sweep the POY awards again, this time leading us to a championship?

Oscar is the first player since Hansborough to return after winning player of the year.

The last player to win it in back to back years was Danny Manning!

Maybe now Sharpe will return also. I have thought both of them would return so they could win an NCAA Championship. I guess it would be possible to have the #1 and 2 picks in the draft like 2012.

Honestly, I will remember him almost as much as some of those who DID play on their blitzkrieg through UK.

I noted in another thread that Sharpe is approaching the draft in such a way that he could return to UK, but I honestly don't see him turning down a lottery pick opportunity.

Oscar averaged 17.3 pts per game while shooting over 60% from the field, 15.3 rebounds, plus shot over 70% from the f/t line.

One thing I see happening this next season that some won't be too excited with is Oscar will probably start attempting 3-4 three's/game.

His outside shot is one of the things that prevented him from being a 1st round draft choice this season!

If Oscar is smart and listens to the coaches he probably will practice his 3 point shooting all summer. If he improves this facet of his game he will be a special player for sure.

Oscar is fantastic college player, but I don't ever see him being a 1st Round draft pick. His game does not translate to the NBA game as a first round pick. Solid second round pick and contributor off of the bench for many seasons, but simply not a 1st round talent.

He will make more at UK on the NIL then he would have in the NBA as a second round pick. My guess is he will make at least $2 to $3 Million next year at UK off of his NIL.

Wife's Mad. Told me we never talk anymore. And just last nite while watching super bowl told her 2 or 3 times to get me a coke and popcorn. Also told her not to forget to take out trash in the morning. Ain't that something. Also told me I was too indecisive. Can't figure out what to do about that. One nice thing I guess. She called me a pro crastinator. Don't know what a crastinator is but I guess I'm a good one for her to call me a pro. Gonna wait til tomorrow to look that up though. I love her but somrtimes can't help but thinking I should have told uncle Junior to keep his coon hound pup and stevens double barrel and also his youngest daughter.

The numbers I have seen reported on his NIL are $2MM minimum with an upside as high as $5MM.

First, I’m glad that Oscar is returning. However, I think making that kind of money while attending any university with the “pretense of obtaining an education” is ridiculous.

I’m sure most will disagree but I think NIL is being carried too far and may hurt the majority of college athletes.

If I want to watch professional basketball players I’ll watch the NBA.

handy,

I believe that players in college should be able to share in the money that made off their talents beyond just a scholarship, etc. However, I tend to agree with you that the current incarnation seems to be going too far.

The NIL and transfer portal are the end of college basketball as we know it. It's now just a free agent entertainment business.

While the NIL will stay until the NCAA changes it, the transfer portal as it has existed the past two years is temporary (or at least, it was intended to be temporary). It is a COVID-specific rule change.

I hope that reverts back to what it was before.
