This Kentucky Wildcats basketball offseason is still just a little more than a week old, and there’s already been plenty to keep tabs on as the roster-building for the 2022-23 season begins. There have been plenty of possible transfers already linked to UK, but there are also a couple of intriguing new recruits from the 2022 class to monitor. Over the past few days, John Calipari has traveled to Pennsylvania and Ontario to see senior guard Adou Thiero and 6-foot-10 wing Leonard Miller, respectively. Thiero is the son of a former Calipari player and had a breakout senior season in the Pittsburgh area. Miller is a long, tall, wing from Canada who has become a hot name in recruiting circles. He was also visited by Auburn last week and is considering a jump straight from high school to the pros. We’ll hear more about both recruits in the coming days, and Miller will especially be one to watch. As for transfers, several names have already been mentioned as possible UK targets, but the Herald-Leader was told over the weekend that Kentucky coaches have not yet been in direct contact with anyone in the transfer portal. Instead, UK is hearing from intermediaries of players with possible interest in the Cats, and they’ll sort out who the realistic targets will be soon. Expect Texas Tech transfer Terrence Shannon Jr. to be on that target list when the dust settles.

And THAT is the dilemma of going down the one-and-done road. The very best players will simply remove themselves from the pool, so now there won't be any more players like KAT or Davis or John Wall.

If that doesn't argue for going "old school" and recruiting for 3-4 year players you can develop, not sure what will. We have seen a lot of players who THINK they are one-and-done, but somehow never get there.

So, change the targets, coach. Get solid, coachable kids who can contribute not as freshmen, but as juniors and seniors. A veteran team of such a caliber would be fearsome indeed. Nobody really fears UK in the tournament any more. Heck, nobody in the SEC fears UK anymore.
