Back after a long absence. From late January the Cats seemed to be in a slow decline. The presumed preseason strength, guard play, turned out to be the main weakness. Defensive guard deficiencies, both with respect to guarding the three and the drive proved to be very problematic. Couple that with poor shooting and turnovers, it was fatal. Even Oscar, great as he was, couldn’t offset that. So sad.

Sad indeed. But this program is headed down the wrong road. When you get older things change around you and you must change with the times. Be it basketball or anything else in life, change or get swallowed up. The UK BB program is at a crossroads and no matter how much Cal has done for the program, his same old way of doing things is no longer working. We can go on dreaming it will still work or we can move on. It's the responsibility of Barnhart to recognize this and make the necessary corrections, or we can suffer for however as long as he wants. We have missed a good one in Kenny Payne.

Wish there was a LIKE button for good posts because you guys are spot on. Calipari’s coaching style isn’t working, even with better talent than most of our opponents, and sadly, he’s probably going to be here for a few more years.

Cal does not play the modern game of basketball. All he knows is the dribble drive and the three point shot sort of made that offense obselete. He does not run a three point offense or defense and that is why he is having so much trouble with todays game of basketball.

Cal's offense is nothing more than a motion offense where the guy with the ball tries to beat his man. There is very little teamwork required. After watching a lot of ball this weekend, it looks like a lot of teams run the same type of offense but with two major exceptions:
1. Other teams drive and often look to kick it out to get an open 3-pointer. Our guards drive to either get a layup or dish for an alley-oop.
2. When other teams hand the ball off to a guard in motion, they also set a screen so the ball handler can get an open shot. We hand the ball off and then move out of the way. I just don't understand this.
Cal simply relies on his players to be better than the opponent, one-on-one. Welcome to the NBA.

I am not going to complain about Cal. The memory of Gillespi is still too fresh in my mind. That has to be the worse period in UK basketball history.

PC,
I understand what you are saying and I agree that seems to be Cal's philosophy. That being said, the majority of the NBA teams run some great offensive sets. The Warriors/Jazz/Suns/Hawks/Bulls run terrific offense.
You also have the One on One play on any team that James Harden is part of. LOL.
-------------------- Wife's Mad. Told me we never talk anymore. And just last nite while watching super bowl told her 2 or 3 times to get me a coke and popcorn. Also told her not to forget to take out trash in the morning. Ain't that something. Also told me I was too indecisive. Can't figure out what to do about that. One nice thing I guess. She called me a pro crastinator. Don't know what a crastinator is but I guess I'm a good one for her to call me a pro. Gonna wait til tomorrow to look that up though. I love her but somrtimes can't help but thinking I should have told uncle Junior to keep his coon hound pup and stevens double barrel and also his youngest daughter.
