Illinois assistant coach Chin Coleman has met with head coach Brad Underwood and informed him he will be leaving to join John Calipari's staff at Kentucky, a source tells CatsPause.com.

CatsPause.com previously reported that Illini assistant Orlando Antigua is also expected to return to UK, where he coached from 2009-14. Antigua and Coleman will likely fill the assistant spots vacated last week by Tony Barbee, who left to become the head coach at Central Michigan, and Joel Justus, who took a job under Bobby Hurley at Arizona State.

UK posted a pair of full-time basketball assistant coaching positions on its jobs website April 26. Those postings were set to expire on Monday, meaning both Antigua and Coleman could be officially announced as soon as Tuesday.

After coaching stops at Colorado State, Nebraska, Bradley, and Illinois-Chicago, Coleman has served alongside Antigua on Underwood's staff at Illinois since 2017. He was instrumental in the recruitment and development of Illinois guard Ayo Dosunmu, who earned All-American honors this season, was named Big Ten Tournament MVP and is a two-time All-Big Ten selection.

Coleman, who began his coaching career with the Mac Irvin Fire of the Nike EYBL, has extensive ties to his hometown of Chicago and successfully recruited 4-star shooting guard Adam Miller out of Morgan Park High School in 2020.

This marks the second straight offseason Calipari has made major moves to his coaching staff. Last summer, Calipari hired Indiana assistant and longtime confidant Bruiser Flint to replace Kenny Payne, who took a job with the New York Knicks and then added former Texas assistant Jai Lucas as special assistant to the head coach and recruiting coordinator before promoting him to assistant coach.
