The waiting game continues for the Kentucky Basketball program as the final pieces of the coaching staff wait to fall into place.
We know Kentucky has had its eyes on Orlando Antigua, a former UK assistant, and Chin Coleman. Both of whom are at Illinois, and at one point, it seemed like a lock Kentucky would bring Antigua back in a reunion that many fans have hoped for.
But Illinois reportedly made a serious counteroffer to keep Antigua and Coleman is examining multiple options, so Kentucky is in a waiting game. Spots have opened up on the coaching staff with Joel Justus and Tony Barbee moving on to other coaching jobs, so the positions are available if Antigua and Coleman want to make the move.
Bringing Antigua back to Lexington would likely make him the highest-paid assistant in college basketball, but it’s a price UK is probably willing to pay to bring back a known recruiter who has a strong relationship with John Calipari and experience with the program.
Things have been quiet on this front for a few days, but it wouldn’t be a surprise if the rumor mill began to heat back up today going into next week.

My vote would be that he takes the offer and returns.

I hope he comes to UK. Not very familiar with the "Chin" guy, but Antigua seemed to have both a firm hand and a good rapport with players, in addition to his recruiting prowess.
Cal needs a guy like Antigua; he would go a long way towards replacing the huge loss of Payne. Payne was a great recruiter, but an even greater teacher/coach. I really think that had Payne been on the staff, the season would have looked a lot better. [ 04-25-2021, 03:09 PM: Message edited by: Tiptree ]
