Devin Askew is a Kentucky signee that is coming to college a year earlier than originally intended. Once a member of the 2021 class, Askew reclassified and comes to Lexington as the No. 25 player in the 2020 class according to the 247Sports composite rankings.
During his final year of high school, playing as a junior, Askew finished his season averaging 17 points, six assists, and five rebounds per game. He led his Mater Dei team to a Trinity League championship.
For his efforts, Askew has been named the player of the year in Orange County, California.
While Askew can certainly get it done on the offensive end, he has made a name for himself as a quality defender. At 6-4, he is a muscular guard that is physical on both sides of the court. While he certainly has some different skills than Ashton Hagans, that is not a bad comparison, especially since Hagans also reclassified to come to Kentucky a year early.
Askew has been at his best when it counted most. In addition to having a 43 point game in this year’s playoffs, he put up 23 points, nine rebounds, six assists, and three 3-pointers in the final game of his high school career. Those numbers led his team in every category.
