Kentucky certainly didn't do itself any favors in Saturday night's 75-66 loss at Auburn.
Despite holding the 17th-ranked Tigers to 35.3 percent shooting, the No. 13 Wildcats were thoroughly dominated on the glass. UK got out rebounded 42-28 while allowing 17 offensive rebounds which led to 17 second chance points, falling to 0-4 this season when losing the battle of the boards.
Even though UK head coach John Calipari got a combined 45 points from starting guards Tyrese Maxey and Immanuel Quickley, starting point guard Ashton Hagans managed just five points and three assists while committing six turnovers before fouling out in just 21 minutes of action while junior center Nick Richards was largely neutralized, finishing with seven points and seven rebounds.
But the officials definitely didn't do Kentucky any favors either.
There were more fouls called (49) than field goals made (38) on The Plains Saturday night. Of the 49 fouls called, 29 went against the Wildcats with Hagans and Quickley both fouling out as Auburn made 33 of 44 free throws.
The 44 free throw attempts were the most by an SEC team in any game this season and the most by a UK opponent since Kansas attempted 47 during a 90-84 overtime win in the SEC-Big 12 Challenge at Phog Allen Fieldhouse back on Jan. 30, 2016. Auburn’s +20 free throw attempts at the line was the largest margin in regulation during the Calipari era.
