Kentucky basketball's loss at the buzzer vs. South Carolina on Wednesday evening did no favors for the Wildcats in the latest Top 25 and 1 rankings released by CBS Sports on Thursday.
Kentucky fell all the way from No. 13 to No. 23 in the aftermath of the contest. Not surprisingly, that 10 point dip for the Wildcats was the greatest of any team in the updated rankings.
Wednesday's loss at South Carolina saw Jermaine Couisnard bank in a three-pointer at the buzzer, sending the Gamecocks to a dramatic 81-78 upset over the No. 10 Wildcats. South Carolina outscored Kentucky 56-45 in the second half to rally from a 14-point deficit.
The loss is another hit to Kentucky’s NCAA Tournament resume, which couldn’t afford many more bad losses. The Gamecocks entered Wednesday at No. 105 in KenPom.com’s rankings, giving the Wildcats three losses to teams outside of the top 100.
