Big Blue Nation has been up in arms over John Calipari’s recent recruiting woes.

However, I don’t think it’s necessary for BBN to panic….yet. Coach Cal is still bringing in elite level talent, and this talent can and will compete for Final Fours.

But let’s be real, the best Calipari teams have had top 5 talents and potential #1 NBA Draft picks. In this realm, Calipari is certainly in a slump.

How can he fix it?

Calipari still possesses his “Swaggy Cal” demeanor. He’s still a Hall of Fame coach. He’s still the coach that has produced multiple #1 NBA Draft picks. And Cal is still the coach that has the most current NBA players out of any collegiate coach. He is smooth, he is charismatic, he is a marketing guru - none of that needs to change.

Cal, however, needs to update his offensive scheme, and this needs to happen ASAP. Coach K was able to bring in Zion, Reddish, and Barrett because he sold them on the Golden State Warriors model of offense. This includes spacing, driving lanes, ball movement, and getting up shots.

The Warriors have All-Stars in Steph Curry, Klay Thompson, Kevin Durant and Draymond Green. They do this because they each get shots, they space the floor for each other, and they have the spacing for drives and dunks. Coach K has the best sales pitch in the game right now: “Come play for me with other studs and we’ll look like the Warriors.”

This writer makes some very good points in his article. The three point shot has been a major factor in all the national championships won over the past ten years or so. Even our 2012 Natinal Championship team had outstanding 3 point shooters in Lamb, Miller etc and a rim protector in Davis which allowed them to defend the three point shooters from their opponents. We have not had a real valid rim protector since Towns in 2015 which was probably our best team during the Cal era at UK.

Good article, and pretty much coincides with what we already discussed here on TCD.

I wish those authors would give us credit when they steal our stuff. [Smile]

It's out and out plagorism. It should not be allowed. Except when I'm stealing one of Redbone's old lines on here.

Tiptree/SCWC/handy/cmd,

It makes you wonder sometimes doesn't it? I've seen many discussions on here end up with almost exact quotes in articles written by some press guys. Obviously this one is just a blogger, but still.

Wife's Mad. Told me we never talk anymore. And just last nite while watching super bowl told her 2 or 3 times to get me a coke and popcorn. Also told her not to forget to take out trash in the morning. Ain't that something. Also told me I was too indecisive. Can't figure out what to do about that. One nice thing I guess. She called me a pro crastinator. Don't know what a crastinator is but I guess I'm a good one for her to call me a pro. Gonna wait til tomorrow to look that up though. I love her but somrtimes can't help but thinking I should have told uncle Junior to keep his coon hound pup and stevens double barrel and also his youngest daughter.
