They held UNCG to 21 second-half points with some OUTSTANDING defense. It also looked to me like Hagans showed some of the PG skills we really need to be a good team. Sure, we made some boneheaded plays, but it looks like this team took a big step towards growing up.

Hagans did a great job holding Alonso down in the second half, holding him to 3 points after a 19 point first half. Hagans could be our answer at the point guard once his offense catches up with his defense. Two players that play all out all the time are Herro and Kelden Johnson, they leave nothing on the floor. Those two carried us offensively over the last ten minutes or so of the game. Great team win, the kind of game this team need to fully grow up.

We actually outscored them 28 to 6 over the last ten minutes of the game, everyone started hustling on the defensive end of the floor for a change.

I sure hope so, cause we need a lot of growth to be an elite team. The players who we need to be on the floor as much as possible are Herro, Travis, and Johnson.
We need better play from Green, Washington and Quickley.
Defense was better in the second half, so we need to build on that.

Hagans had a couple of really nice drives. The team as a whole does not penetrate enough, too much passing the ball on the perimeter and settling for crappy shots.

Herro missed a bunch wide open threes. Finally mad a mid range jumper and three late. Would have been a cake walk if he could hit open threes. Herro or somebody has to knock down open threes.

And this is why we need Hagans or Quickley (I say Hagans) to take control and be the PG we need.

The fact that Johnson and Herro are our most consistent players might be a problem for Cal. His teams have always been built around either dominant point guard play, or dominant inside play. Wing players seem to never be 'featured' in Cal's offense. He doesn't recruit shooters, and his style leans on penetrators and finishers.

Can Cal build a team around two solid wing players? He may have to this year.

I'd like to see Montgomery get some of pj Washington's minutes. Put the best players on the floor and let the chips fall.

I can't agree with that. PJ is twice as good as Montgomery right now. I can agree with Bama from another thread that Montgomery should get some of Travis' minutes, but PJ must be on the floor for us to be successful.

JMO, but if UK wants to be considered a title contender in March, E.J. Montgomery needs to be playing more minutes now. I've always been a backer of Washington, but right now he is just going through the motions IMO. I think Travis needs to be on the court. While he has limitations on both ends of the court, he plays hard, always blocks out, and does a lot of little subtle things on the floor to help his team (i.e. he sealed defenders on both of Johnson's back to back to dunks in the second half). He also always puts a body on a man when rebounding. Something that is often overlooked in today's game in my opinion.

Right now the best 6 players in my opinion are: Johnson/Herro/Hagans/Montgomery/Travis/PJ

I really don't think Quade Green should get much time at all. He may be the worst passing guard that I have seen in a while. Absolutely zero vision on the court and does not seem to understand angles at all. He just blindly throws balls at people. He simply needs to become a Catch and Shoot 3 point specialist for this team.

Wife's Mad. Told me we never talk anymore. And just last nite while watching super bowl told her 2 or 3 times to get me a coke and popcorn. Also told her not to forget to take out trash in the morning. Ain't that something. Also told me I was too indecisive. Can't figure out what to do about that. One nice thing I guess. She called me a pro crastinator. Don't know what a crastinator is but I guess I'm a good one for her to call me a pro. Gonna wait til tomorrow to look that up though. I love her but somrtimes can't help but thinking I should have told uncle Junior to keep his coon hound pup and stevens double barrel and also his youngest daughter.
