Recently, 2019 SF DJ Jeffries made the decision to decommit from Kentucky and reopen his recruiting process, surprising many Kentucky fans.
His father, Corey, then continued to surprise people, appearing on a radio show and ripping into the Kentucky staff.
As you can see in the tweet below, the elder Jeffries said he felt Kentucky was unprofessional in the way they handled his son’s decision:
John Martin ✔ @JohnMartin929 DJ Jeffries' father @CoreyJeffries10 on our show: "We talked with Kentucky (about the decision to de-commit), and it kinda shocked me. They were kinda unprofessional. They didn't handle the news the way I expected them to handle it, being professionals."
Obviously, neither side benefits from comments like this, as Jeffries’ father now will be questioned by every team recruiting him. Meanwhile, Kentucky doesn’t look great either if what Corey says is true.

There are better players at the position Jeffries played that we are recruiting but this is connected to Hardaway, no doubt. I assume this will probably mean that Wiseman is also going to go to Memphis.

I don't think what he said should be considered 'ripping the Cats'. I was expecting a lot worse before I read that article. I think they may be making a bigger issue out of nothing.

I'm usually always on the kid side of these things, but this one is hard for me.
I think I went on record as saying as soon as Jeffries committed that he would never play at UK because Penny was rumored to be taking over for Tubby in Memphis. The kid has a bond with Penny and I understand that, but my rub is he should have just decommitted right then. That is my issue. I'm sure Cal asked as soon as the Penny was named coach at Memphis and he waits until the final recruiting period is closed to announce hid decommitment?
As they say, Don't let the door hit ya, where the good Lord split ya.
-------------------- Wife's Mad. Told me we never talk anymore. And just last nite while watching super bowl told her 2 or 3 times to get me a coke and popcorn. Also told her not to forget to take out trash in the morning. Ain't that something. Also told me I was too indecisive. Can't figure out what to do about that. One nice thing I guess. She called me a pro crastinator. Don't know what a crastinator is but I guess I'm a good one for her to call me a pro. Gonna wait til tomorrow to look that up though. I love her but somrtimes can't help but thinking I should have told uncle Junior to keep his coon hound pup and stevens double barrel and also his youngest daughter.

Looks like they created the bad feelings, not UK. They should have told the truth that he wanted to go to Memphis. Not that he was looking for the best school for his education..........
We will get Allen which is just about as good.

Any time the parents start doing interviews, the team is lucky to have cut ties with a kid.
This is not the big deal that it is being played up as.
Because there is no football or basketball going on, they have to take nothing stories like this and make them into a week long saga.

There is a long list of kids out there that we are still in the running for that are better than this kid.

Amen. I think we dodged a bullet here... he (and his father) sound like poison.
I would not be surprised if Cal and his staff expressed some unhappiness. Is that unprofessional? I don't think so. Was it unprofessional for Hardaway to 'stay involved' in Jeffries' life as a "encouraging person and mentor"? Yes, very much so.
Any way you look at it, this was a father trying to "spin" bad behavior by his son and by Hardaway.

When penny got the Memphis job, he was gone. His dad got his feelings hurt because Cal didn't watch his last AAU game in Vegas. Tony Barbee was the coach who actually said something that offended them. I don't like Barbee, not because of this, I just believe he's a cancer. Look at his record at Auburn. He couldn't keep enough scholarship player's, one year under him and most transferred out.

That is one way of looking at Barbie. I have a different view point regarding the man.
Some guys just aren't cut out to be head coaches. It turns out he failed miserably.
I know another guy who is regarded as a very good assistant but was a miserable head coach. His name is John Pelphry. He couldn't keep players on his teams. He was a cancer as a head coach. But, he is highly regarded as an assistant.
