Kentucky sophomore forward PJ Washington is expected to be sidelined for close to a month after undergoing surgery to fix a detached tendon in his left pinky finger this week.

"Good time to do it," UK coach John Calipari said Thursday while speaking during a satellite camp at Ryle High School. "Do it right away. Take him four or five weeks to get it all healed, but he’ll be fine."

Washington is expected to be ready to compete in the team's preseason exhibition series in the Bahamas in August, Calipari said.

Washington tweeted Wednesday his surgery earlier that day “went well.”

While working out for NBA teams at the draft combine in May, Washington told reporters he had delayed surgery to fix the injury, which he suffered during a practice in January, in order to test the NBA draft waters.
