Kentucky starting center Nick Richards, in a decision that should come as no surprise, will return for his sophomore season rather than pursuing the NBA.
The news was first reported by Jon Rothstein of FanRag Sports, and SEC Country sources have confirmed the report.
Richards started every game for Kentucky, but his role diminished as the season wore on. Richards played a combined 21 minutes in Kentucky’s three NCAA Tournament games. He reached double-figure minutes just once in Kentucky’s final 10 games.
The Kingston, Jamaica native, a former 5-star prospect, would likely not have been selected in the 2018 NBA Draft. ESPN’s Jonathan Givony doesn’t rank him as a top-100 prospect in a draft that includes just 60 picks.
Richards averaged 5.1 points and 4.4 rebounds per game.
