Charles Hurt dies.
Charles “Atlas” Hurt, who scored 786 points in 124 games with the University of Kentucky men’s basketball team, died Friday. He was 55.
Hurt died after undergoing a stem-cell surgery some weeks ago for treatment of leukemia, former UK player Jack “Goose” Givens and former UK coach Joe B. Hall said.
“According to his mom, it went very well, and they thought it was very positive,” Givens said. “He got better, actually, but obviously it didn’t do what it was supposed to do. ... They had tried a number of other procedures, and after a long battle he fought it hard, but it just didn’t work.”

One of my favorite players. RIP #44, keep dunking on Duke in Heaven!!
-------------------- Wife's Mad. Told me we never talk anymore. And just last nite while watching super bowl told her 2 or 3 times to get me a coke and popcorn. Also told her not to forget to take out trash in the morning. Ain't that something. Also told me I was too indecisive. Can't figure out what to do about that. One nice thing I guess. She called me a pro crastinator. Don't know what a crastinator is but I guess I'm a good one for her to call me a pro. Gonna wait til tomorrow to look that up though. I love her but somrtimes can't help but thinking I should have told uncle Junior to keep his coon hound pup and stevens double barrel and also his youngest daughter.

He was one of my all time favorite UK players. So young to be leaving this earth. RIP Charles Hurt, you were a good one who leaves us old time Cat fans with a lot of fond memories of your days at UK.

Also a favorite of mine. He led his Shelby County team to a 44-43 victory over my (at the time) undefeated E-town team in the regional finals. I think he scored like 30 of the 44 points for his team.
I was privileged to play against him in a pickup game once. Let me tell you, no matter what he looks like on TV, he is a true beast in real life. I tried to stop him, but he could go over, around, or through me with ease.
This is sad news indeed, since Charles and I are the same age. RIP, Mr. Hurt.

Luckily for me I wasn't in high school at that time. I did hear that the refs needed to be escorted off the court by security (police?) after the game was over.
The coach for Holmes had that picture hanging on the wall of his office. [ 09-19-2016, 08:43 AM: Message edited by: PaulCat ]
