Michael Porter Sr. — the father of five-star small forward Michael Porter Jr. — was hired as a member of Lorenzo Romar’s coaching staff, according to Rivals.com national analyst Eric Bossi. Porter Sr. just wrapped up his sixth season as an assistant coach for the Missouri’s women’s basketball team and is a longtime friend of Romar, who is also Porter Jr.’s godfather.
Porter Jr. — a 6-foot-9 prospect — is ranked by Scout.com as the No. 5 overall prospect in the class of 2017 and has not yet trimmed his list of schools to a manageable number. He said last month that he plans to narrow that list to six or seven colleges sometime soon, and that UK would definitely be one of the programs remaining after that cut.
The Huskies are now a logical favorite in Porter Jr.’s recruitment, and they already have a commitment from his younger brother, Jontay Porter, who is ranked as a four-star player in the class of 2018.
If Porter Jr. does end up at Washington with his father, it would seemingly lessen the chance of the “package deal” that he and five-star point guard Trae Young have discussed publicly. Young released a list of 11 schools in December, and Washington was not on it.
Young is UK’s top recruiting target at point guard in the class of 2017.

A lot of teams have done this in the past, Kentucky included.
Tenn even named the father of a recruit its head coach and he was later fired after the kid went on to the pros.
